Why save water?
Due to the explosion of the human population and our dependence on water to do everything from drink to take a shower, the clean, salt water supply is strained. If the reservoirs get too low not only is it bad for the aquatic life (like some fish won't span or grow in shallow water) but our own water supply diminishes. Therefore I is important that we use less water.
How to reduce your water usage
- Take shorter showers
- Minimize watering the lawn / let it brown a little . Replace it with rocks. You might think that a lawn converts lots of carbon dioxide into oxygen buy because of the size we cut our lawn the energy we use to purify the water that waters the lawn often offsets any benefit the lawn may have; plus you are wasting water. Also watering your lawn in the morning before the sun rises will allow you to use less water as the water has more time to set in before evaporation.
- Plant only climate appropriate / drought resistant plants.
- Turn the water off while you are brushing / washing your hands.
- If your city is being reconstructed try to see if they will install “gray water” lines. This is waste water that has been filtered and can be used in toilets and out side hoses and sprinkler systems.
- If you are buying new dishwashers or clothes washers make sure they are water efficient washers.
- Only turn on the washer when you have a full load
